Case Study | Highgate School, London

« Back

Amber have a long term working relationship with this school and have carried out a number of large projects on their behalf, working alongside their approved building contractor, M&E consultants, architects and first and foremost the Schools IT department and the teachers.

In this instance we were tasked with their Library build that transformed an assembly hall with stage area to fully functioning and high-tech new Library.

The main points we had to consider were:

Stage Area

The main library entrance is in this area, with a mobile librarian desk in the centre. However this still needed to be used as an area for teaching, presenting and for library inductions so therefore has a requirement for AV equipment. With the large windows, lack of fixings into the ceiling and the requirement for new shelving around the area, we proposed for large LCD Display to be built into an area on the shelving. This would be located within the book shelving.

Digital Signage screens

1 x LCD monitor positioned at the main entrance, with Digital signage subscriber unit, mounted behind the screen.

Main area

3Mtr Electric screen installed (reverse roll) on the brick area above the stage. Large 10000 ansi lumen projector installed on the tie rod of the main hall (this including load-testing on the rod and a custom designed bespoke mount for the purpose).

Audio: Bose surface mounted speakers were fitted under the mezzanine level and above these were RAL coloured fit in with the surroundings.

Hearing loop system with IR receivers with induction loop driver positioned in alcove with charging station for 10 IR receivers, and neck loops as were required.

Control system: AMX control system, comprising of 2 x 6 button keypad with navigation wheel , 1 x 7 button key pad, 1 x 5.2" wireless touch panel, a wall mount docking station for the wireless touch panel, and an integrated controller.

All systems running back to the a 4U rack which will house Extron amps, matrix switchers, transmitters and receivers, Denon DVD player, 4 channel amplifer, Bose subwoofer etc. The rack was custom designed to fit within a recess to the side of the stage area, with full ventilation.

The project was completed within budget and exceeds the client's expectations.
